Gary Rowett was in the Sky Sports studio to watch Birmingham's Sky Bet Championship clash at Derby on Tuesday and he reflected on being sacked by the club.
Despite leading the Blues to the verge of the play-off places, Rowett was dismissed earlier this month and replaced by Gianfranco Zola.
Speaking ahead of City's 1-0 defeat by the Rams, Rowett said: "It's a little bit strange. Obviously I've had a little bit of time now to get used to that feeling.
"It was probably more strange last week, watching them come out against Brighton in a home game and seeing a different manager! But it's life, it is what it is - it's happening more and more in football.
"As a manager, you have to take the opportunity to watch the game and view it from a different perspective, which I'm looking forward to doing."
Despite his sacking, Rowett said he was still proud of his time at the club, and will look back fondly upon the experience.
"It was a success in terms of bringing them from where they were, not in terms of achieving promotion or the play-offs because we didn't, we just missed out," he said.
"But the biggest things for me were the fans, who were incredible. There were some games where you just enjoyed hearing the fans sing and listening to the atmosphere.
"It was a really positive two years, I had a ball of a time and won't forget it. But it's gone and I've got to move on for my next challenge."
