Goodison’s frantic finale

Two goal-line clearances, a red card and penalty appeal, and an open-goal chance - it was a frantic final minute at Goodison Park as Everton held on for a 2-1 win over Arsenal on Tuesday night.

Ashley Williams' header secured three points for the hosts after Seamus Coleman's equaliser just before half-time cancelled out Alexis Sanchez's opener.

The real drama didn't occur until deep into stoppage time, though, as first Phil Jagielka saw red after picking up a second yellow card.

The resulting set-piece caused chaos in the Everton box, with Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech up to attack, as Everton twice denied their opponents with goal-line clearances.

In the melee, Cech ended up in Maarten Stekelenburg's net and then seemed a little confused as to which way he should be running.

There was still time for Sanchez to have a penalty appeal turned down and, with Cech stranded up the pitch, for Everton to squander the chance to score a third into an open goal.
