Vincent Kompany missed Manchester City's trip to Borussia Monchengladbach because of a fresh knee injury, according to Pep Guardiola.
It was thought Kompany had missed the trip to Germany because of a concussion suffered during the 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Guardiola, however, has now revealed that the central defender has suffered yet another knee injury and is expected to be out of action for weeks, and not days as previously thought.
Kompany had only recently returned to first-team duties for City following a four-month lay-off after undergoing groin and thigh surgery at the start of Guardiola's reign in Manchester.
