Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez has told friends he will be fit to play for Chile on Tuesday as his injury isn’t too serious, according to reports.
The 27-year-old suffered a low-grade muscle tear in his calf while away on international duty with Chile and speculation has been rife as to how long the player could be out for.
Contrary to earlier reports that ruled him out of action for up to six weeks, Sanchez is understood to have told his close friends that the injury isn’t as bad as rumoured and he could even be back for the World Cup qualifier against Uruguay early next week.
“It is hurting a bit but I’m fine. I’ll be back for Tuesday,” Sanchez told his inner circle, according to El Mercurio.
Sanchez has been in hot form for Arsenal so far this season – scoring eight goals in 13 matches in all competitions this campaign – and the latest news will come as a relief for Gunners fans.
Instead of potentially missing five important Premier League matches, it is now likely that Sanchez will be fit to face Manchester United after the international break.
A source close to the national team camp told El Mercurio: “The ultrasound was performed immediately.
“The doctors commented that with these injuries you must wait 24 hours to determine the recovery time, because the tear evolves.
“Luckily, they tell us that it’s superficial and he could recover quickly.”
