Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has mocked his detractors who doubted he could succeed in the Premier League.

The 35-year-old Swede finished the year having racked up 50 goals, 17 of them at United following his move from Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

After being denied a goal in their last-gasp 2-1 win over Middlesbrough on New Year's Day, Ibrahimovic will be looking to add to his tally in Monday's visit to West Ham, live on Sky Sports 1.

He has scored in eight of his past 11 games to confound critics who suggested at the start of the season that the forward could be too old to succeed in English football.

"It gives me a lot of energy, trust me," Ibrahimovic said. "A lot of energy, because they get paid to talk **** and I get paid to play with my feet - that's how I enjoy it. I had a fantastic year.

"At PSG it was amazing, and I came to United and my first six months here have been more than amazing. I came to the Premier League and everyone thought it would not be possible but, like always, I make them eat their balls.

"I'm super-happy and I feel good. I don't know how many years I have left, but I'm enjoying the football. Every year, they [United] have been calling me and they was not feeling good, so I wanted to come when everyone thought I was over [the hill]."

United head to the London Stadium on Monday in sixth spot and three points behind fifth-placed Manchester City and a further 13 points behind leaders Chelsea at the half-way stage in the Premier League campaign.

The former AC Milan and Barcelona star added: "Hopefully, we can still win the title. We have not lost for 10 games, if the other teams make mistakes, who knows?"

Despite his passions for the English top-flight, Ibrahimovic expressed his dismay at the requirement to play two games over 48 hours.

He said: "I think it's crazy. Let's be intelligent and realistic. For the health and for every individual and for the physical part of the point of view for everyone that is in the game, you need rest.

"There's no superman. There's no strength that can recover from a game so fast, and I cannot do anything about it. If the coach wants me to play, I'll play. I feel good, but let's be realistic."
