Klopp to pick ‘best team’ (which includes Karius)

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has pledged to play the “best team we can play” against Southampton in the League Cup.

Klopp received criticism for his decision to field the youngest starting XI in Liverpool’s history against Plymouth on Sunday; he will not make the same mistake against Premier League opposition.

“Wednesday, the best team we can play, that’s how it is,” said Klopp. “Last year (two legs) a surprise, this year I’m used to it. All good.

“You don’t have a lot of advantages in two-legged fixtures. But if you asked before you’d say play first away, then decide at home.

“We have to go to Southampton, it’s the first leg, they’re pretty ambitious in this tournament. It’s a proper final at Wembley!

“I know everyone is thinking Liverpool v Manchester (Utd) would be a nice final but there is still a tie to play.

“Hopefully not Hull vs. Southampton!”

Asked who would play in goal after Karius returned to Liverpool’s starting line-up against Plymouth, Klopp confirmed: “No final decision, but it’s pretty likely that Loris plays again. It makes sense, it’s fair, in response to training.”
