Jerome Boateng believes he is ready to take over as Germany captain following Bastian Schweinsteiger's international retirement.
Schweinsteiger called time on his international career last week having made 120 appearances for his country, leaving coach Joachim Low with the task of finding a replacement as captain.
Boateng is one of several high-profile candidates who could take over the armband, and the Bayern Munich defender feels he is up to the task.
"It is an honour to be captain of your country and I would certainly be ready," Boateng told Bild.
"It is an important role. You are representing your country and you have responsibility."
Boateng's club team-mates Manuel Neuer and Mats Hummels, as well as Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira, have all been touted as candidates and to succeed Schweinsteiger and Boateng admitted that Low was not short on options.
"We have plenty of strong leaders in the national team," he added. "There is not just one boss.
"Jogi Low will certainly make the right decision as to who will succeed Basti."
