Jamie Carragher has criticised former Chelsea player Jason Cundy for comparing Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to Brendan Rodgers.

Carragher has a storied history with Cundy, who once questioned his decision to retire from international football with England in 2007.

Cundy called the former defender “a bottler” on that occasion, and the ex-Chelsea man has again incurred Carragher’s wrath.

After branding Jurgen Klopp ‘Brendan Klopp’ on talkSPORT, and claiming that the German had done little to improve Liverpool defensively since taking the job last October, Cundy was forced to defend his opinion to an angered Carragher, who phoned up the call-in radio station.

“You have wound me up again,” he said. “I think it’s unfair, I’m not having a go at Brendan Rodgers, but they are different types of managers and play different ways.

“You look at the CV Jurgen has got, what he has done in Germany. He has been to a Champions League final. There’s no doubt he is a top class manager.

“Listen, you can ask me if you think Liverpool are going to win the league, I’d probably say no.

“But if you look back at the year they went for the title under Brendan Rodgers it was a similar situation. Everybody thought they’d be going for the top four and that season they had no Europe.

“I think that is going to have a massive impact.”
