Relegated Norwich won 2-1 at Walsall, with Ryan Bennett and Cameron Jerome scoring either side of Theo Vassell's equaliser for the hosts.

Rotherham beat Parkgate FC 7-0, while Fulham saw off Cork City 3-0 thanks to a double from Stephen Humphreys in the first half and Matt Smith's strike after the break.

Goals from Brett Pitman and Freddie Sears gave Ipswich a 2-1 win at Shelbourne, while Championship newcomers Barnsley beat Stalybridge 2-0 thanks to Adam Hammill's penalty and Jack Cowgill's late goal.

Elsewhere, Daniel Graham's second-half winner gave Blackburn a 1-0 victory over Ried, and Wigan drew 0-0 at Portuguese side Braga.

Roberto Di Matteo got his Aston Villa tenure off to a winning start, with an 8-0 win at Grzer AK in Austria, a game which saw Stiliyan Petrov return to the side after his battle with Leukaemia.
