Minnesota United reveal the secret behind that hilarious own goal...

After a howler of an own-goal from Minnesota United goalkeeper Sammy Ndjock, the club have taken to Twitter to solve the mystery...

The side based in the United States were playing Bournemouth in a pre-season friendly, and the Cherries were ahead with 24 minutes on the clock through Callum Wilson before Ndjock's moment of madness.

The Cameroon international inadvertently threw the ball into his own net as he tried to start a quick counter attack. As he goes to throw it, he seems to change his mind and the ball ends slipping out of his hands, directing it straight into the back of his own net.

But while the stopper became a viral sensation on social media overnight, the club have put a hilarious spin on the incident, and have come up with their own hilarious reason behind the gaffe.

With the accompanying video that you can watch above, the Minnesota United Twitter account posted: "PSA: always wait at least 30 minutes after eating jelly sandwiches before hitting the pitch", showing Ndjock making a jam sandwich ahead of kick-off before including the hashtag 'blame it on the jelly'.

The club have encouraged anyone to tweet their own 'blame it on the jelly' moments, and have retweeted the best replies so far.
