Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has revealed he is prepared to let defender Marc Wilson leave the club.
However, Hughes insists he had made the decision before Wilson's recent outburst on social media.
Republic of Ireland international Wilson was involved in Twitter exchanges with supporters last week in which he appeared to criticise Hughes over his lack of game time after missing out on the club's pre-season trip to Hamburg.
"It's fair to say that sometimes players can be frustrated with a perceived lack of opportunity and that's the case with Marc," said Hughes.
"He's maybe expressed himself in the wrong way and it's fair to say that Marc probably feels his future lies elsewhere and it's fair to say I probably agree with him.
"So the likelihood is that if there's a deal to be done, Marc will take that opportunity and carry on his career elsewhere.
"But that's not a consequence of anything said on social media, that's just his current situation."
Wilson, 28, who only played one Premier League game last season, has two years remaining on his contract with the Potters and Hughes wants to strike the right deal in order to allow him to depart.
"It could be that the options presented to us don't fit with our value of Marc as a player, so it has to be right for us and Marc himself. We will see," added the Welshman.
