That’s the first ugly game we’ve won – Klopp

Jurgen Klopp was delighted to get a “massive” three points in the race for a top four finish despite Liverpool not being at their best.

The Reds went behind early on when Ashley Barnes flicked the ball into Simon Mignolet’s net before a goal on the stroke of half-time from Georginio Wijnaldum got them back level.

Emre Can popped up with the winner with just under half an hour to go with a low curling effort sending Liverpool five points clear of Arsenal in fifth.

“The performance was good enough to win the game but the result is massive for us, it’s the first ugly game we have won,” Klopp told Sky Sports.

“Usually when we are not that good we lose. I said before the game that Burnley are the most consistent team in style; they play what they play. They fight for the second balls, long balls, but Simon Mignolet came out for us which was so important.

“Burnley were always in the game, it was intense and we had to fight. We had some moments, it was not only luck that we scored before half-time and it was a wonderful goal from Emre Can.

“It is clear we have to do a few things better. We were not at our absolute best but we fought. I liked it, it is this kind of game we haven’t won until now. It feels kind of strange a little bit. Not the most memorable game but a very nice three points.”
