Atlanta United missed the chance to go third in the Eastern Conference, losing 3-1 at at home to DC United.

DC United recorded their first away win of the MLS season with a 3-1 victory over Atlanta United on Sunday.

Bill Hamid kept DC United in it early by making two point-blank saves, but Atlanta took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute when Kenwyne Jones headed in a chipped cross from Yamil Asad.

But the game was soon level as Michael Parkhurst turned Lamar Neagle's cross into his own net.

Luciano Acosta put the visitors ahead before half-time as he dribbled past four defenders and slotted inside the near post for a 2-1 lead.

Sebastien Le Toux scored for a second straight game in the 55th minute as he finished from Acosta's through ball.

"The road in the MLS continues to prove to be very difficult to pick up points," said DC United head coach Ben Olsen.

"Whether it's one or three, you usually get out of there feeling pretty good about yourself."
